Alfonsas Eidintas
A historian and diplomat and one of the foremost researchers of the Holocaust, the professor and Doctor Habilis Alfonsas Eidintas was born on January 4, 1952, in Voiguva. From 1969 to 1973, he studied in the History faculty at the Vilnius Pedagogical Institute. From 1973 to 1986, he was a junior lecturer and then senior lecturer at the History faculty in the General History department at the Vilnius Pedagogical Institute. From 1986 to 1993, he was the head of the Institute of History department at the Lithuanian Academy of Science. From 1993 to 1997, he was the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania to Canada, the United States of America and Mexico. Also, A. Eidintas was the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania to the State of Israel, the Republic of South Africa, the Republic of Cyprus and the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. Today, he is the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania to The Kingdom of Norway.
In 2003, the publishing house “Versus aureus” published the historian’s study about Jewish and Lithuanian relations during the Holocaust. In 2006, A. Eidintas’ first historic novel, Ieškok Maskvos sfinkso (The Search for the Moscow Sphinx) appeared and attained much attention from readers and the press.
