Almudena Grandes
Almudena Grandes was born in 1960, in Madrid.
As a writer, she debuted and became famous with the novel Las edades de Lulu (Lulu, 1989) and was awarded the erotic literature publishing houses’ La Sonrisa Vertical XI prize, and since then, readers and critics have not let her to pass from view. Her novels Te llamare viernes (I will call you on Friday), Malena esu un nombre de tango (Malena is the tango’s name), Atlas de geographia humana (Atlas of human geography) and Los aires dificiles (The Difficult Aires). The tone of her short stories such as Modelos de mujer (Models of women) and other works have made her one of the most steadfast and most translated authors in contemporary Spanish literature.
The author’s works have won many prizes, among them the Premio Calamo for the best book of the year 2000 – The Difficult Aires. That book also won the reader’s, Premio Crisol. In the same year, the author received the Art and Literature prize, Premio Julian Basteiro.
