Historian Arturas Mickevičius was born in 1961. In 1983, he earned a Doctorate at Vilnius University.

From 1984 to 1991, he lectured in the Department of History at Vilnius University, from 1992 to 1995 – in the Department of Archaeology at Stockholm University. From 1995 to 1998, he was the vice-director of the Lithuanian Institute of History. Since 1996, he has been lecturing at Vilnius Pedagogical University.

Since 1998, A. Mickevičius has also been an active participant in Lithuanian culture. For five years he headed the publishing house “Vaga” and since 2003, he has been the director of the publishing house “Versus aureus”.

A. Mickevičius is the author of several articles and monographs as well as the co-author of textbooks. He is also a member of the editorial board of the monthly Akiračiai (Horizons).
