Arūnas Spraunius
Writer, poet, dramatist, and publicist Arūnas Spraunius was born on November 8, 1962, in Raseiniai. In 1984, at the former Šiauliai Pedagogical Institute, he earned a Teacher’s Degree in Lithuanian Language and Literature.
In 1998, A. Spraunius joined the Lithuanian Writers Union. He wrote the novel Sulamita (1995), the books of poetry Egzaltacijos (Exaltations, 1997), Savigraužos karalystė (The Kingdom of self-chagrin, 1998), Letos pliažai saulėti (The Beaches of Leta are sunny, 2003); a book of short stories Tylos! From 1984 to 1993, Arūnas Spraunius worked as a teacher in Pasvalys region and in Panevėžys. From 1993 to 1997, he worked at the daily paper Panevėžio balsas (Panevėžys voice) and published the cultural supplement Nevėžis. From 1996 to 2000, he was the art critic at Panevėžys Municipal Gallery of Fine Arts. He was also the moderator of the educational projects Modernizmas ir postmodernizmas (Modernism and post-modernism), Postmodernizmo kultūra (Post-modern culture), Tardicinės Rytų kultūros (Traditional Eastern cultures), and Centras ir periferija (The centre and periphery). From 1996 to 2000, he worked as a correspondent for the newspaper Ūkininko patarėjas (The Farmer’s adviser) in Panevėžys and Vilnius. From 2000 to 2001, he was an associate editor for commerce at the magazine Lietuvos ūkis (The Lithuanian economy). From 2001 to 2003, he worked in the advertising department for the newspaper Valstiečių laikraštis (The Peasant’s newspaper).
Currently he writes commentaries for the Internet news portal delfi.lt and Žinių radijas (News radio) where he hosts the show Dvi pusės (Two sides).
