Birutė Jonuškaitė
Writer, publicist and interpreter Birutė Janušauskaitė was born in 1959. In 2006, with her novel Kregždėlaiškis (The swallow’s letter), she became a second republic prose readings’ laureate, dedicated to the memory of Jurgis Kunčinas. The writer’s first book, Pateisinti save (To excuse myself – 1989) was well accepted and earned an A. Jonynas award. A little later, she published the novel, Ievos neišvarė iš rojaus, (Eve was not expelled from the Paradise – 1991), and the set of stories, Rugių laukas (The rye field – 1996). B. Jonašauskaitė’s best-known books are the two-part novel Didžioji sala, (The Great island – 1997, 1999), the P. Cvirka award winning book of stories Žalčių tiltas (The adders’ bridge – 2002) and the G. Petkevičiūtė-Bitė award winning book of essays and conversations Eksperimentas (The Experiment – 2005).
The writer has also published a book of poetry, Vaikas pražilusiom akim, (A child with grizzled eyes – 2004).
In 2007, the publishing house “Versus aureus” published a set of stories of Birutė Jonašauskaitė Kregždėlaiškis (The swallow’s letter).
