Guido Michelini

Guido Michelini was born on July 2, 1951, in Parma, Italy

In 1970, he graduated from a classical high school in his native city. In 1974, he graduated from Bologna University (majoring in classical philology). From 1975 to 1977, he studied at Vilnius and Hamburg Universities. From 1978 to 1987, he worked at the Catholic University of Milan. In 1986, G. Michelini won a national contest and became a professor. From 1987 to 1994, he worked at Potenza University. Since 1994, he has been a professor at Parma University where he lectures general and comparative linguistics.

The author often visits Lithuania, developing scientific relations with Klaipėda University and other Lithuanian Universities, and is a member of several editorial staffs of Lithuanian magazines. In 1981, he defended his thesis for a Science of Philology degree at Vilnius University, and in 1988, he defended his Doctoral thesis in philology. In 2000, G. Michelini was given an honorary Doctorate by Klaipėda University. In 1998, he was awarded a medal by the Ministry of Culture. In 2002, he was awarded the Gediminas medal. He has published over one hundred scientific articles in various Italian, Lithuanian, German, and Polish publications and has written several monographs in Italian and Lithuanian languages. The research and publications from Michelini’s works are based on especially thorough analysis of the sources and distinguished for original critical insights, wide erudition and correct scientific discussion.

His main scholarly interests: historical grammar, the relations of Baltic languages with other Indo-European languages, the original Prussian language, and old monuments in Lithuanian language.

In 2005, the publishing house “Versus aureus” published a specific scientific publication, prepared by G. Michelini, “1958 m. Giesmes Duchaunas: Lutherio Geistliche Lieder”.
