Izraelis Lempertas
A participant in the Second World War, Doctor Izraelis Lempertas was born in 1925 in Mažeikiai. He graduated from Vilnius University where later, he lectured for more than forty years. Also, he worked at Vilnius Pedagogical University. When Lithuania proclaimed Independence, he took the opportunity to analyse the problem of Jewry in Lithuania. In those days, Lempertas had already started to analyse the culture and history of Lithuanian Jewry, and taught at the Yiddish Institute. He published about forty works in Lithuania, the USA and elsewhere.
In 2005 the publishing house “Versus aureus” published the book of I. Lempertas, Litvakai (translated into English as “Litvakes”).
