Johann Wolfgang Goethe
German writer, humanist, politician, scientist and philosopher, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe was born on August 28, 1749 in Frankfurt am Main and died on March 22, 1832, in Weimar.
Goethe is appreciated as one of the leading German romantic writers.
J.W. Goethe grew up in an opulent Protestant family. He studied at Leipzig and Strasburg Universities. He later worked as a lawyer and a Duke’s adviser.
In 1775, he moved to Weimar where he lived for the rest of his life. Goethe performed various duties for the estate of the Duke of Saxony, and at one time, was the administrator of the Treasury.
From 1786 to 1788 he led and traveled with a theatre and later participated in the Napoleonic wars.
In 2007, the publishing house “Versus aureus” published the book by J. W. Goethe, Sielų giminystė (Die Wahlverwandschaften).
