Historian and Doctor of Humanitarian sciences Jolita Starcevičienė was born in 1970. In 1993, she graduated from the History faculty of Vilnius University. Since 1994, she has worked in the history of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania Division at the Lithuanian Institute of History. In 2000, she defended her Doctoral thesis on Idealusis moters modelis XVI a. II p. -XVII a. I p. proginėje literatūroje LDK (The ideal model of the woman in the literature of the second half of XVI c. to the first half of XVII c. in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania). From 2001 to 2003, she was a junior research fellow in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania’s History division. In 2001, 2002 and 2003, she worked on probation at the International Humanitarian School in Poland. Since 2004, she has been a research fellow in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania’s History division. Since 2001, she has been a member of the editorial staffs of the periodicals Lietuvos istorijos metraštis (The chronicle of Lithuanian history), Lithuanian Historical Studies and from 2003 – Ukrainskij Istorichnij zbirnik. She prepared one source publication, and published ten articles in the Lithuanian and foreign press.

Her main research interests: the history of the mentality of Europe and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania of XVI – XVIII c. and family history.

In 2005, the publishing house “Versus aureus” published the monograph of J. Sarcevičienė Lietuvos didikės proginėje literatūroje: portretai ir įvaizdžiai (Lithuanian noblewomen in literature: portraits and images).
