Robert Bringhurst
Poet, translator, the researcher of literature and art, linguist and theorist of typography Robert Bringhurst was born in 1946, in Los Angeles. He grew up both in Canada, (Alberta and British Columbia), and the USA, (Montana, Utah, and Wyoming). He also lived in the Middle East, Europe and Latin America.
R. Bringhurst has lectured at various world universities, written and translated (mostly poetry) from ancient Greek and Chinese and modern languages.
Currently he devotes most of his time to translating the sagas of North America Indians from the Haidai language.
Poems by R. Bringhurst are full of ascetic beauty and wisdom. They are modern although at the same time they revive the cumulate voices of ancient poets and philosophers. Since 1974, the poet has published 17 selections of poetry and has collected many awards.
In 2007, the publishing house “Versus aureus” published a selection of poetry by R. Bringhurst “Breathing Through the Feet” (Kvėpuoti pėdomis), and together with the author, presented the book at the Vilnius Book Fair.
