Jewish Cultural Heritage in Lithuania is the book that is dedicated to everyone who is partial to the environment that surrounds you and its relations with history. Here, the scientific analysis, historical facts and the warmth of personal memory are interlinked. You read and understand that more and more, under the ordinary sights and images lay exceedingly rich and mysterious traces of economic, financial and cultural activity.
The book presents 21 articles about various aspects of the Jewish cultural heritage, which reflect cultural values presented during the Days of European Heritage (10th – 19th of September, 2004), dedicated to Jewry.
In Lithuania, the road of Jewish culture goes two ways – one way leads us to the most outstanding synagogues, graveyards, market-squares of little towns surrounded by Jewish buildings and entire former Jewish neighbourhoods. The other way is that everything we learned and got from them for our daily life and spirit remains, yet we do not recognize the source that gave it to us.
Jewish Cultural Heritage in Lithuania is the English translation of the book Žydų kultūros paveldas Lietuvoje. The Department of Cultural Heritage with the Ministry of Culture supported both publications.
