The book publishes the Teutonic Order’s chronicle of wars, written by the order’s chaplain, Peter of Duisburg. The Teutonic Order formed at the end of 12th century, during the time of Near East aggression. The chronicle widely reveals the Teutonic Order’s migration and entrenchment in the Vistula River Valley at the first half of the 13th century. The third part of the chronicle – the largest – tells of the conquest of Prussian lands and the fight against Lithuania. Authentic facts reveal the feudal German Teutonic Order’s cruel and decisive expansion into the lands of the Balts-Prussians, Yotvingians and Lithuanians. The work tells of devastation and slaughter in a wide area: from the lower reaches of Vistula through Central Samogetia to the upper reaches of Nevėžis and Nemunas Rivers; and how the people and the Lithuanian nation battled against the aggression.
The book is translated from Latin by L. Valkūnas.
Historical commentaries are written by R. Batūra.
Lithographs are by the National Prize laureate A. Každailis.
