„Journey of Lithuanian cultural heritage till 1990“ 

One of the main features of mobile cultural values is its locomotion and migration. The book discusses natural and compulsory locomotion of movable cultural values, especially moving them from their origin to another country and also by changing their owners by force.

The contribution of Paulius Galaunė in the recognition of Lithuanian cultural heritage abroad and his efforts to repatriate this heritage to Lithuania is priceless.

In 1580-1581, the Radziwill family presented their armour to the Habsburg collections. The first treaties of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth with Sweden in 1660 and with Russia in 1667 mention stolen Lithuanian cultural treasures. After the third partition of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in 1795, Russia stole Lithuanian registers and still keeps them in Moscow. After the uprising of 1831, Russian authorities closed Vilnius University and distributed its cultural treasures among Russian institutions. In 1944, the archive of the Lithuanian treasury in Warsaw burned…alas, cultural values move.
