It is the first study in which the conditions of the Soviet occupation army’s presence on Lithuanian territory are comprehensively analysed.
The occupation army in Lithuania is the first study in which, with reference to previously unpublished archival sources, comprehensively analyses the conditions of the Soviet occupation army’s presence on Lithuanian territory and also the relations with the Soviet Lithuanian authorities from 1945-1990 and independent Lithuania in 1990-1991. The book evaluates the various factors that had a lesser or greater influence on the relations of Soviet Lithuania’s authorities and the military district of the Baltic States along with the usage of annexed Lithuanian resources for meeting military requirements. The book reveals the main tendencies and principles: how military organizations influenced local authorities’ (collaborators) decisions (and opposite) how the Soviet Lithuanian authority exploited the authority granted them as liaisons with the military structures.
