„Unparallel parallels“ 

The more famous book by Liūtas Mockūnas, Pavargęs herojus: Jonas Deksnys trijų žvalgybų tarnyboje (The tired hero: Jonas Deksnys in the service of three intelligences). However, there is a latter selection with the symbolic title – Unparallel parallels – that contains articles by J. Mockūnas, written while in emigration and in Lithuania from 1960 – 2007. The articles distinguish themselves for their variety (from presentations and literature reviews, reports, travel impressions and the problems of Lithuanian history) polemical spirit, accurate insights, and unexpected parallels. They stir more than one stereotype that lives in our society and raises questions and problems that still cause worry. With its scepticism and free spirit, the texts of L. Mockūnas should contribute very much to the historical consciousness, the training of individual thinking, and the formation of tolerance in Lithuanian society.
