Andrius Kubilius

Politician Andrius Kubilius was born on November 8, 1956, in Vilnius. From 1974 to 1979, he studied in the Faculty of Physics at Vilnius University and qualified as a physicist. From 1979 to 1990, he worked as a laboratory assistant, engineer, and research fellow at Vilnius University.

In 1988, A. Kubilius joined the Sąjūdis Movement. From 1990 to 1992, he was the Executive Secretary of the Sąjūdis Council. In 1992, for the first time, he was elected to the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania; in 1996, 2000 and 2004 he was re-elected. A. Kubilius was the first vice- chairman of the Lithuanian Seimas. At the moment, he is the vice-chairman of the Seimas and a member of the Seimas’ Board. Also, A. Kubilius is a member of the Environmental Protection Committee and head of the Committee on European Affairs.

A. Kubilius is the member of The Homeland Union (Lithuanian Conservatives) party and currently, the party’s leader.

Special interests: literature on political science.

In 2004, the publishing house “Versus aureus” published the politician’s compendium of analytic articles Kodėl krepšinis Lietuvoje gražesnis už politiką? (Why is basketball in Lithuania more beautiful than politics?)
