Gintautas Vilkelis was born in 1983 in Širvintos. After graduating from Musninkai secondary school he entered the Vilnius Pedagogical University where he studied history and law.
Till 1992, he worked as a teacher at Vilnius 61st secondary school and was a supervisor at the Lithuanian Institute for Teacher’s Qualification. In 1995, he earned a Doctorate from Vytautas Magnum University. For two years, he was the chief officer and director of the Department of Defense’s politics and programs for the Ministry of National Defense. From 1997, he was a government adviser for questions of national security and in 2001; he was appointed Vice-Minister of Interior affairs. Also, he is the deputy head of the Information Society’s development committee in the Lithuanian government. In 2006, G. Vilkelis started postgraduate studies at Mykolas Riomeris University.
His Interests: literature on law and economics and horticulture. He speaks fluent English, Russian, Polish, and German.
In 2006, the publishing house “Versus aureus” published a historiographic study of G. Vilkelis Lietuvos ir Lenkijos santykiai Tautų Sąjungoje (Relations of Lithuania and Poland in the League of Nations). The monograph analyses the influence, importance and potential of the League of Nations to regulate the relations between Lithuania and Poland in 1930s.
