Doctor of humanitarian sciences, and research fellow Rūta Čapaitė was born on July 9, 1962, in Vilnius. In 1985, she graduated from the Vilnius National Pedagogical Institute. Since 1989, she has worked at the Lithuanian Institute of History: from 1989 to 1994 – in the division of Archaeology as a junior research fellow, from 1992 – as an assistant, from 1994 – as an assistant in the Division of History of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. In 1998, she defended her thesis for a Doctorate on the theme, Gotikinis raštas Lietuvos didžiojo kunigaikščio Vytauto raštinėje (1392-1430) (Gothic writing in the office of the Great Duke of Lithuania Vytautas (1392-1430). In the same year she became a research fellow. She collaborates with the publication Litauische Postille. The publication is being compiled according to the project Edition und Kommentierung der Litauischen Postille von 1573 (executor Dr. J. Gelumbeckaitė) that is being supported by the Duke Augustus Library in Wolfenbuttel and the Lithuanian Language Institute.
