Writer and philosopher Tomas Kavaliauskas was born in 1971 in Panevėžys. He studied at Panevėžys secondary school No.2, with intensified literature studies, which included spring festivals of poetry and Latin. In 1989, he graduated and entered the University of Massachusetts (USA) where in 1998; he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy. In the same year, he started graduated studies at Vytautas Magnum University. In 2000, he earned his Master’s degree in Philosophy. Since 2003, he has studied at postgraduate school and is the postgraduate student and assistant of cultural scientist Leonidas Donskis. Tomas Kavaliauskas will defend his thesis for a Doctorate in the autumn of 2007.

In 2000, Tomas Kavaliauskas started to lecture on ethics, business ethics, political philosophy, and culture theory. He writes scientific articles, reviews, and translates scientific articles.

The literary path of Tomas Kavaliauskas began as a hobby. In 2000, he started at Nemunas editorial office where his first works were published. Since 2003, he has written essays; some of which were published in Kultūros barai, (Cultural Bars) Naujasis Židinys, (New Fireplace) and Šiaurės Atėnai, (Athens of the North). The journal Kultūros barai has even twice awarded Tomas Kavaliauskas with the prize for the best essay of the year. In 2007, the publishing house “Versus aureus” published the debut novel of Tomas Kavaliauskas that has become the second book of the series Debiutai (Debuts).
